John Muir was born in Scotland in 1838, and he died in 1914 at the age of 76.He had a variety of occupations being an author, naturalist, and early preservationist of the U.S. wilderness preservation.

ACTIVATION EFFORTS-He petitioned for the National Park Bill passed in 1890. This established the Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.-Muir founded the Seirra club an important conservation organization, in 1892 in San Francisco. He was appointed and elected its first president.-In 1901, Muir published "Our National Parks", a book that caught the attention of President Teddy Roosevelt.This relationship lead Muir to assisting in planning Roosevlt's conservation programs.

He saved 148 million acres of National Forest, 5 National Parks, and 23 National Monuments.

John Muir believed not only did the wilderness need our protection for survival, but we as humans need the wilderness to survive.FUN FACT: John wrote his address as "John Muir, Earth-Planet, Universe".
