Inspired many pianist like Fats Waller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Art Tatum. James Johnson also got Fats Waller his first piano roll.

"Father of the Stride Piano"

Was an important transitional figure between ragtime and jazz piano styles. His style became known as Stride.

Was the father of stride piano, the composer of Charleston and Carolina Shout and one of the founders of modern jazz piano.
