Giraffes can be 4.8 to 5.5 metres (16 to 18 ft) tall and weigh up to 900 kilograms (2000 pounds). Giraffes have a very long neck and they have very long legs too. Their skin is light yellow with brown spots. Giraffes have horn-like stumps on their head, which are covored with skin. They have a long darkpurple or brown tongue, wich can be 45 cm long. Giraffes are the tallest land animals on earth. That is because the have a very long neck which be 3 metres by itself.

Giraffes are found in parts of Africa. They live on the savannah, which is the African grassland, or in light woodland. They do not live in the thick forrest where it is difficult to see predators like lions.

Giraffes eat mostly leaves from tall trees, which they can reach ,because they have long legs and long a neck. They eat small insects and fruit too. they dont have to drink water every day. When giraffes are drinking they can't stand normal. That is, because giraffes have to long legs. In the picture below you can see how they drink usually.

Did you know that we are the tallest mammals in the world?!!

The giraffe is the tallest mammal in the world. When they get babys their babys are taller than the most humans. When baby giraffes are born they can stand in half of an hour. After only 10 hours they can run alongside their family.Giraffes spend most of their lives standing up; they even sleep and give birth standing up.Giraffes only spend between 10 minutes and two hours asleep per day. They have one of the shortest sleep requirements of all the mammals.Giraffes are sociable, peaceful animals which rarely fight. When giraffes fight it’s called ‘necking’. When giraffes are necking they hit each other with their necks. It can only take a few minutes and seldsum it results in injury. Just like snowflakes and human fingerprints, no two giraffes have the same spot pattern. Many people first believed the giraffe was a cross between a leopard and a camel.

If you think that giraffes only beautiful animals you are wrong. Giraffes are well adapted animals. They are really good camouflaged with spots of different sizes and colors which help giraffes to survive on the savanna. Giraffes have a fringe at the end of their tail that fringe helps them to keep flies and other pests away. anoteher adaptation is that giraffes have on each foot giraffes have a tough hoof which protects each foot. Males have knobbed and hairless horns. Females have thinner, tufted horns. Males have hairless horns, because when they ‘neck’ they lose their hair on their horns. Females do have hair on their hair, because they don’t neck. Their long neck is used to reach leaves in tall acacia trees, but whit only a large neck you cant reach the height of an acacia tree. Unlike many animals, the giraffe's front legs are longer than the hind legs. These long front legs make it easier to reach tall leaves. To eat from those high trees they have a long tongue. Their tongue can be 50 cm (19.5 inch). It helps them to pull leaves from the trees. But sometimes do trees have thorns and that can hurt the giraffe. That’s the reason why they have though lips. Their though lips helps them to protect themselves from the spiny thorns of acacia trees.
