The Journey

African people arrived and were brought to plantations in and around America in major port cities

The trip from Ghana and the rest of Africa was a horrific experience with many Africans dying and becoming ill while being tightly packed on ships

Once they arrived in the U.S.

Ghanaians and other Africans brought a variety of experience in farming to America

Africans retained parts of their language and lifestyle to America such as songs still sung today

The 14th Amendment

The 14th amendment granted citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. including African Americans after the 13th amendment abolished slavery

The decendents of Ghanaians and other Africans became well respected members of society and became famous civil rights activists, politicians, musicians, and helped shape America

Ghanaians and other Africans are coming to America more then ever now. 500,000 new Africans immigrants not including the thousands of descendents of Africans in the Carribean came to America in the 1990's in search of a new, better life where they can hold as much power and prestige as any other American.

African people including the people of Ghana were forced to leave their families and their homeland and permanently seperate families by American who need them as slave labor

Life didn't get any easier once they came to America. They were treated poorly making no money and were "owned" by plantation owners who had Ghanaians and other Africans picking crops and working for them and never allowing them to leave the plantation or have a decent life
