Geoscience

We live in the Biosphere with all living things.

Geology...the science that deals with the dynamics and physical history of the earth, the rocks of which it is composed, and the physical, chemical, and biological changes that the earth has undergone or is undergoing.Astronomy...the science that deals with the material universe beyond the earth's atmosphereMeteorology... the science dealing with the atmosphere and its phenomena, including weather and climate.Oceanography...the branch of physical geography dealing with the ocean.

Four branches of Earth Science

Earth's four major spheres

The Lithosphere... is the solid, rocky crust covering entire planet. The Hydrosphere... is composed of all of the water on or near the earth. This includes the oceans, rivers, lakes, and even the moisture in the air.The Biosphere...The biosphere is composed of all living organisms. The Atmosphere...is the body of air which surrounds our planet. Most of our atmosphere is located close to the earth's surface where it is most dense. The air of our planet is 79% nitrogen and just under 21% oxygen; the small amount remaining is composed of carbon dioxide and other gasses.

A renewable resource is a resource which is replaced naturally and can be used again. Examples are: oxygen, fresh water, solar energy, timber, and biomass. Most fossil fuels, such as oil, natural gas and coal are considered nonrenewable resources in that their use is not sustainable because their formation takes billions of years.(far left picture is nonrenewable & the windmills and water at the top of the poster are renewable resources)

Renewable and Nonrenewable rescources

What is a System?A set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole, in particular.Earth works as a system to keep all things alive through food chains and appropriate weather climates.
