Georges Seurat

Seurat was born December 2,1859, in Paris, France. He was born in a wealthy family. He died March 29, 1891 in Paris, France.

Living in Paris for most of his life, his first art teacher was a sculpter. Seurat started painting in his own way. It was called Pointillism. Later, he founded the 19th century French art school of Neo-Impressionism.

He painted ‘Sunday Afternoon on the Island La Grande Jatte’.

At age 20, he went to Brest to do his military service.During his time in the military, he drew things he saw at sea like birds and boats.
