George Zweig

He introduced, independently of Murray Gell-Mann, the quark model (although he named it "aces")

Zweig and the American physicist Murray Gell-Mann, working independently of each other, proposed their theory in 1964.

About invention. There are six types of quarks, known as flavors: up, down, strange, charm, top, and bottom. Up and down quarks have the lowest masses of all quarks. The heavier quarks rapidly change into up and down quarks through a process of particle decay.

dates of contribution

BiographyZweig was born in Moscow, Russia into a Jewish family. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1959, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He earned a PhD degree in theoretical physics at the California Institute of Technology in 1964 . He was trained as a particle physicist under Richard Feynman. He introduced, independently of Murray Gell-Mann, the quark model

A quark is an elementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter. Quarks combine to form composite particles called hadrons, the most stable of which are protons and neutrons, the components of atomic nuclei.
