George Washington

George Washington is known for being the first president of the United States. He served as president from 1789 to 1797. His nickname was "Father of the Country". Washington led the Continental Army to victory over the British in the American Revolution. He also formed the first presidential cabinet. Washington stepped down after two terms, because he felt a president should not rule for too long. On December 14, 1799 George Washington passed away due to a throat infection.Reference: -1/18/2015
