On February 22, 1732, George Washington was born in Westmoreland Country, Virginia, to his father Augustine Washington and his father's second wife Mary Washington. His father died when George was only 11 years old. His brother Lawrence then raised George into the man he was. George never received any education beyond elementary school, but he had a gift for math that got him a job as a surveyor at the age of 16. After his brother Lawrence died in 1752, George inherited Mount Vernon. The following year, his military career began. In a war where Fort Duquesne was surrendered to French forces, he was taken as a prisoner but the French released him and he helped get Fort Duquesne back in 1758. George was married to Martha in 1759 and in this time he managed his family and estate. He then took control of Virginia troops right before the American Revolution. He proved himself as a great leader as he won several battles during this Revolution. In 1789, he was inaugurated as the first president of the United States. He served two terms and his presidency ended in 1797 after he refused a third term. About two years later, on December 14, 1799, Washington died due to acute laryngitis. He is one of the most honored individuals in American history today.

George Washington was born in 1732. At Age 16,he worked for Lord Fairfax and learned about surveying land. In 1754, he was nominated to be a lieutenant colonel in the Virginia Militia. He also fought the first battles of the French Indian War. Washington barely survived when four bullets ripped into his coat. These battles taught him how to be a great military leader. He Served in the House of Burgesses for 16 years. In 1775 in a fight for independence with Britain, he was elected to be the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. It was with this position he commanded his troops in war for 8 and a half years. George believed in a type of element of surprise warfare where he would sneak up on the enemies and then attack. In the war he captured Trenton and Princeton. Due to his great leadership and determination George Washington won independence for North America.


In both of the election of 1789 and 1792, George Washington had recieved all of the electoral votes winning the election to become president. During Washington's presidency he establiched the cabinet of advisors. On May 31, 1790, President Washington signed the Copyright Act of 1790 into law. This was the first law protecting copyright in the United States. Although Thanksgiving had been celebrated for a very long time up to Washington's presidency, Washington was the president who issued Thanksgiving as a holiday. Going into his second term, Washington gave the shortest inaugural speech ever delivered from a president. Being the first president of the United States, George Washington will forever be known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and has his face carved out onto Mount Rushmore with some other of America's best prisidents in the past.
