George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. George was a first-born, and lost his father when he was just 11 years old. His older brother, Lawrence, became his main influence. When Lawrence passed on due to a lung disease, George inherited the Mount Vernon estate. Washington joined the Virginia militia, and flew up through the ranks. After he retired from his successful military career, he joined the Congress representing Frederick County, Virginia. Eventually he was unanimously elected as the first president of the United States. Washington died of a throat illness on December 14, 1799.
