In the mid-1920’s Gershwin stayed in paris for a short period of time. While he was there he wrote one of his famous songs “An American in Paris”

Gershwin dropped out of high school at the age of 16

As a child he secretly learned to play the piano

Gershwin started his fame as a song composer

his first job was as a song plugger for a tin alley pan publisher

Soon he was hired as the rehearsal pianist for musicals andin 1919 he came out with his hit song “Swanee”

George's height of his career was in 1937

On July 11, 1937 He was in Hollywood while he was working on THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES when he died of a brain tumor.

He was only 38 years old.

Joseph Schellinger was a music composer and composition teacher who created the Schillinger System of Musical Composition

Joseph taught George for 4 years. When George was composing Porgy & Bess and he consulted Joseph concering the opera.
