TSUNAMI (aka tidal waves, seismic sea wave)Tsunamis are caused by the displacement of a large volume of water, they can travel at incredible speeds, taking homes and buildings with them
Tsunamis are hard to detect and predict, the size and speed is also hard to predict and tsunami waves can travel up to 500 kilometers per hour
Why are they so dangerous?
Geohazards
People located near coast lines are most at threat of being affected by tsunamis.
Vulnerable Regions

Most tsunamis happen in the pacific ocean's "Ring of Fire", an active area where tectonic shifts make earthquakes and tsunamis frequent.
Tsunamis are measured using tide gauges, satellites, and a lot of math. Intensity ranges from 1 to 12.
How is a tsunami measured??????
Ways to Protect Yourself1) Stay away from low-lying areas2) Stay away from rivers and streams that lead to the ocean3) Be aware of the warning signs
Brief HistoryDecember 26th, 2004 Sumatra, Indonesia: Most widely recorded tsunami; 230,000 reported deadMarch 11th, 2011 North Pacific Coast, Japan: Caused by an earthquake that hit a 9.0 magnitude, killed more than 18,000 people
