Genghis Khan

Genghis Khan,"Temujin", was born in Mongolia around 1162. He married at age 16, but had many wives during his lifetime. At 20, he began building a large army with the intent to destroy individual tribes in Northeast Asia and unite them under his rule, and was successful. The Mongol Empire was the largest empire in the world before the British Empire, and lasted way after his own death in 1227.

He united the Mongol tribes, and founded the Mongol Empire, declaring himself its first leader. He then occupied vast areas of China and central Asia by having the strongest army during his age. Although he died soon after those conquests, his Mongol successors went on to conquer almost all of the rest of Asia and eastern Europe, meaning that Genghis Khan's legacy was that he was the founder of the largest ever contiguous empire in world history.
