[2013] myala akey-clark (Mr. Rogers Global): Gas Masks

The idea of the first gas mask was in 1823, brothers, John and Charles Deane had patented a smoke protecting mask for fireman that was later used for modified underwater divers. 1849 Lewis P. Haslett patented an "Inhaler or lung protector which filtered dust in the air. 1854 Scottish chemist John stenhouse upgrated the mask that used charcoal to filter noxious gases. American, Garrett Morgan patented the Morgan safety hood and smoke protector in 1914. Two years later his gas mask was used to rescue 32 men trapped during an explosion in an underground tunnel 250 feet beneath Lake Erie. His masks were then used during world war 1.

GAS MASKS

Creators!

First anti gas mask was offten ineffectual. Basic goggles and a mouthpad made of flannel so when the chemicals soaked,it would neutralize the gas.

All-in-oneIn the middle of the war both sides wore fully protective helmets that protected the eyes nose and throat. Even animals would have masks that were hand made to fit their faces

April 22, 1915, was the first time poison gas has been used in war. The first gas released was a cloud of chlorine gas used by the Germans. Since the masks were completely reliable for protection,

the gas was used greatly by the Germans who used about 68,000 tons and the British/French who used about 51,000 tons for 3 years.

GAS ATTACK

Even though there was less use of gas effects in world war 2, there was still a fear that pursued them to make oxygen inca baiters.

As more inventions were created to help make the gas mask more safer, it has helped protect through all kinds of toxic gases and chemicals. Either for fire fightes/scienctist/soliders from 1823 up to now!
