ACCOMPLISHMENTS & DISCOVERIES (WHAT HE IS KNOWN FOR)-Galileo is well known for his discovery of Jupiter's four gigantic moons: Io, Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto.-Galileo invented the Mathemtical Compass and a thermometer that used the density of liquids to its advantage.-In 1602, Galileo theorized that the time it takes a pendulum to swing back and forth does not depend on the arc of the swing.-In 1609, Galileo adopted and improved the spy-glass (telescope) greatly. He then turned it to the sky to study the heavens.-He proved that the solar system was actually heliocentric, not geocentric like the people at the time believed.
WHY GALILEO WAS SO IMPORTANTGalelio was responsible for the re-birth of modern science. He improved the telescope and worked hard to prove that, like Copernicus theorized, the sun was in the center of the solar system, not the earth. He discovered Jupiter's four moons and Saturn's numerous rings. He did not only help change history, but exploration as well. Galileo was an intelligent and courageous man that was not afraid to stand up for the truth.
