Douglas is a Christian. Douglas has spoken about her faith saying, "I believe in God. He is the secret of my success. He gives people talent” and "... I love sharing about my faith. I chose Gabby Douglas because she is a true inspiration for people not to give up and work hard to make their dreams come true.

Gabby Douglas began formal gymnastics training at 6 years old and won a state championship by the time she was 8.
