F.Scott Fitzgerald

F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on Sept. 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. His namesake came from Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner. As a teenager, Fitzgerald was very talented in literature, and those who saw his work encouraged him to do more. In 1913, he went to Princton University and wrote scripts for musicals, stories, and articles related to those in Princton. In 1917, Fitzgerald dropped out of school to join the U.S. Army. He was afraid he might die in the war with literary dreams fulfilled, so before reporting for duty he wrote the novel The Romantic Egotistic. The Publisher he sent it to rejected it, but reviewers encouraged him to submit more work in the future. After the war, he rewrote the novel and called it This Side of Paradise, which was published in 1920. At the age of 24, Fitzgerald became one of the countries most promising writers. The same year, he married a woman named Zelda Syrein, and together they had one child. In 1925, his most famous novel, The Great Gatsby, was published. Although he wrote good novels, Fitzgerald had a rough life. He was and alchoholic, sufferred depression, and was often faced with debt. In 1939, He started to write the novel The Love of the Last Tycoon. In 1940, when he was half done with the manuscript, Fitzgerald died of a heart attack in Hollywood at the age of 44. His literary work was greater acknowledged after his death and are now some of America's greatest works of literature.
