Frida was known for her traditional mexican style of hair, dress, braids and long peasant skirts. She was very passionate about her mexican culture, her paintings and politics. Her strong political views made her a symbol of femenism. While attending the National Preparatory School she became more politically involved. She later joined the communist league and the mexican communist party.

Frida Khalo is considered to be one of mexicos greatest artists. She began painting after she was severely injured in a bus accident at the age of 18. Through her paintings she expressed not only her pain and emotions but also used surrealism and realism traditional mexican elements in her paintings.

Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera

Frida became very involved in her paintings. She later met and married the famous artist Diego Rivera. Khalo became famous and very well known nation wide. Due to her severe injuries and illness she died at age 47, July 13, 1954. Her fame increased after her death. Her image is celebrated through her art, books, movies and her "casa Azul" also known as the "Blue House Museum", which is the house where she was born and raised.
