There are 4 types of friction. Fluid friction, static friction, rolling friction, and sliding friction. Fluid friction comes from when a fluid (liquids and gases) resist your motion, Ex picture 1. Picture 2 shows the absence of static motion. Static motion is what keeps you from slipping when you walk. it happens everytime a surface rest on another surface. Rolling friction happens when a surface rolls over another surface. Rolling friction is much weaker than the static and sliding friction. Ex. picture 3. Lastly sliding friction comes from when an surface slides across another. It is weaker than static friction but stronger than rolling friction. Ex. oicture 4.

Friction is a force that resists the motion between two objects in contact with one another. A major cause of friction are the many electrons in both objects forming weaks bonds together. Even though they are weak bonds, the large amount of weak bonds causes us to feel their force. Another cause of friction are the surfaces of the object. All surfaces have ridges like little hills and valleys, even the smoothest. When in contact with eachother their hills and valleys get stuck together. this makes us feel the force of initially disconnecting them and the for preventing them from reconnecting. Derformation is a cause of friction most forget about. While an object is sitting ontop of another it causes that surface to sag some. the amount of sag depends on the strength of the bottom surface but thats not relevant at this moment. Removing the top force from the sag causes you to feel friction.

There are 2 types of forces of friction. You have the static force of friction. and then you have the the kinetic force of friction. the static force of friction happens when an item is at rest. the kinectic for of friction happens when an object is in motion. Static friction is always greater than kinetic friction because kinectic friction only has the rough surfaces bouncing off one another. Not amount the deformations or the electron bonding like static does.
