Franz Schubert

On January 31, 1797, in Himmelpfortground, Austria, Franz Peter Schubert was born. His father ,a schoolmaster, received a thorough musical education, and he also won a scholarship to boarding school.

By 1814, Franz had written many piano pieces, and had produced string quartets, a symphony, and a three-act opera.

Though Franz was not rich, his work gained popularity and recognition, for bringing classical and romantic music styles together. He died in 1828 in Vienna, Austria from a disease called typhus abdominalis.

In 1814 Schubert left for collage. He taught for his fathers school, this had little effect on his enthusiasm for writing music.That autumn his mass #7 in f major was performed to great lengths, his first masterpiece, "Gretchen am Spinnrade" he wrote when he was just 17.

Schubert worked as a schoolmaster, But he also composed music. Between 1813 and 1815, Schubert proved to be a great songwriter.
