Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin D. Roosevelt wass born in New York on January 30, 1882 into a very wealthy family. He grew up to study politics, graduating from Harvard University in 1900 in only three years, and was diagnosed with Polio in 1921. Feeling defeated by this disease, he focused his tim e and money in buying a resort in Warm Springs, GA where they created a clinic for Polio patients. He funded the foundaiton called the March of Dimes which later created the vaccine cure for Polio. After encouragement from his wife, Eleanor, he continued to persue his political career. Roosevelt followed in the footsteps of his idol and fifth cousin, Theodore Roosevelt, in pursuing political positions. He was a Senator for the state of New York, and later became the Governor. In 1933, Roosevelt began the first of his four terms as President; he is the only President to have served this many terms. Roosevelt led the United States throught the Great Depression and World War II. He died on April 12, 1945 in his haven of Warm Springs, GA due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Roosevelt was a very driven individual, graduating from Harvard University and attending Columbia Law for a few years. His political career was a success as he served as a Senator, Governor, and of course the 32nd President of the United States of America. During his presidency, Roosevelt faced many critical issues and tried to solve them. He came in the midst of the Great Depression, creating new ideas and solutions such as his New Deal. With his desire to keep isolated from world war, this ended as Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941. He led the United States into World War II.With the efforts to support the US in the war, unemployment rates dropped to 2% and the economy started to book once again.

Lasting Impact

By taking on the Presidencry in the midst of the Great Depression, Roosevelt help restore the peoples' faith in themselves. He gave the people hope through his promise of taking action and a stand against their rights and issues. He told them people "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
