The top number of the fraction is called the numerator and the bottom number is called the denominator. If you want to remember that then d is for down and d is for denomiator. The numerator tells us much are shaded and the denominator tells us how many part there are.

EQUIVALENTEquivalent fractions are the same fraction but in different numbers. For example: 1\2=4\8 or 6\12. If you want an equivalent fraction you first choose, a fraction then you times the numerator and the, denominator by the same number to get, an equivalent fraction.

IMPROPERAn improper fraction is when the numerator is equal or larger than the denominator. For examle:16/1=16 wholes.

PROPERA proper fraction is when the numerator is always smaller than the denominator. For example:5\9, five ninths.

In real life you would see fractions used in cookin recipes, buildings, feilds for footy soccer cricket, cutting trees, lego, toys and veicals or aircraft. You can see it every where.
