Fractions are numbers that are less than a whole number. We represent the part of a whole number by making it a fractions. Fractions can be by whole numbers they can also represent whole numbers.Ex) 1 1\2 and 6\6

Equivalent fractions are fractions that are equal to each other.Ex) 1\2 = 2\4You can find a equivlent fraction by doing multiplcation what ever you do to the top you must do to the bottom so if you multiply the numerator by two you have to do that to the denomerator.Ex) 1/2 x 2 = 2\4 (1x2=2: 2x2=4)That is how you get equivlent fractions.

Fractions are every where, you can find them in recipies, food can be split into fractions, and stuff like 1\4 of the couch. In the picute to the left and right you can see many things that can be split into fractions.
