The Civil War was America's most destructive and deadiest war ever.

The Civil War was a very sad time for americans and the post civil war (also known as the Reconstuction) was a very confusing time for Americans. It took place through 1861-1865. And the Reconstruction lasted 8 years from 1865-1877.

The parts of are book that are true are that after the civil war there was alot of land opening up in confederate states, and there was a group of people that were killing and capturing slaves called the night riders. And the thing that are fiction are that they weren't just giving forty acres away they could of givin away more or less amounts of acres, and that there was no ghost tree with a treasure chest in it.

The setting is Georgia and this effects the characters by making there travels more dangerous because they are constantly being hunted by the night riders, but if they were in the north there would be no dangers.
