Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.O say, does that star-spangled banner yet waveO'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner based on the lone flag he saw waving after the War of 1812Picture Credit:National Park Service- Fort McHenryhttp://www.nps.gov/fomc/learn/historyculture/images/FSK.jpg

Fort McHenry was home to the War of 1812, and it was built during the Revolutionary War (1776) to protect the people of Baltimore. Now, Fort McHenry guards the American flag in war and peace

Fort McHenry should be preserved, because our National Anthem was created because of Fort McHenry, and if it's not preserved, then a huge part of our Nation's history will be missing.
