The general of the Union army in the first battle of Bull Run was Irvin McDowell. Irvin McDowell was general of his army at the battle of Washington also. While he was leading his army in the first battle of Bull Run his army was not successful because they were not experienced. While in battle his army was not efficient, so they lost. That is a little bit about Union general, Irvin Mcdowell.
The general of the Confederacy in the first battle of Bull Run was P.G.T Beauregard. P.G.T Beauregard commanded the attack at Charleston, South Carolina. His greatest achievement was saving the town of Petersburg, Virginia. He also commanded his armies in the battle of Shiloh. That is a little bit about Confederate general, P.G.T Beauregard.

What happened?
The first battle of Bull Run started on July 21, 1861. The battle started off with 35,000 Union soldiers and more than 20,000 Confederate soldiers. The first battle of Bull Run was near a railroad junction in Manassas, Virginia. The first battle of Bull Run was the first major land battle of the Civil War. In the end, the Confederacy ended up winning the first battle of Bull Run.In the beginning, the Union seemed to be on the verge of winning. Later that day, Confederate soldiers arrived under the command of Joseph E. Johnston. The greatly disorganized Union army collapsed under the pressure of the Confederate’s attack. It took the Union army about thirty-six hours to get back to Washington D.C. That is what happened during the first battle of Bull Run.
