Magellan was born in the city of Porto or Sabrosa, c. 1480, Portugal, and died in April 27, 1521, Mactan, Philippines. In his mid-20s , he was sailing in large fleets and was committed in combat. He joined a Portuguse fleet that was sailing to East Africa. After his parents were dead at the age of 10, he became a page for Queen Leonor at the Portuguse Royal Court because of his family's herritage. Magellan's expidition of 1519 - 1522 became the first expidition to sail from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, then named 'peaceful sea' by Magellan.
Accomplishments
Magellan had led the first European voyage of discovery to circumnavigate the globe. He searched for fame and fortune. His expidition was the first to sail from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean in 1519 - 1522, then had named the Pacific Ocean to 'peaceful sea'. He later sailed to Diogo Lopez Sequeira in the first Portuguse embassy to Malacca.
Lasting Impact
He still lives for finding the Pacific Oceaan.
