Cinema Influence

Teenagers were the driving force behind fashion in the 50’s.A lot of the money teenagers acquired when towards the latest trends.The 1950s was the transition from a conservative and formal way of dressing to a more loose and informal style.As the decade passed it became more acceptable for both males and females to show more skin.

American cinema and television were a great influence on the fashion trends. Blue jeans, a leather jacket, and a white t-shirt became a famous outfit in this decade.This was influenced by Marlon Brando in the 1953 film The Wild OneSome boys wore more tailored, British-influenced Teddy Boy style of dress - high-waisted, narrow 'drain pipe' trousers, long jackets, slim ties and large, shiny pointy shoes called 'winklepickers'.

Women were influenced by Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly They inspired tiny waistlines and full skirts and busts. Slim pencil-line skirts were also popular. Stiletto-heeled shoes emerged in the early 1950s
