Facts about Congress

In order to become a member of the House of Representatives you must be 25 years old and have been a citizen for 7 years. In order to become a Senator you must be 30 years old and have been a citizen for 9 years.

The House and the Senate, also known as Congress, make up the Legislative Branch of the U.S. Government.Their main responsibilities include:1. making laws2. investigating the executive branch3. helping their state and constituents4. approving all Presidential appointments and treaties5. Regulating the military and declaring war

This is the capitol building, which is where the House and Senate meet!

The House has 435 members who serve two-year terms. They are elected to represent their district.The Senate has 100 members who serve six-year terms. Senators are elected to represent an entire state.
