Eye Irration

Hypotheis:If homemade mascra is uded then their will be no eye irritation and lashes will look longer.

Research Mascara is a type of makeup product used on your eyelashes to thicken, darken, and extend/lengthen your eyelashesDifferent ingredients create different looks. For instance, shea butter enriched mascara includes thicker and bolder lashes. Also, different brushes affect the length and thickness, so our brushes will need to be the sameTo make the mascara we will need coconut oil, aloe vera gel, grated bees wax, activated charcoal capsules, and a clean mascara containerWe will compare our homemade mascara with store bought cover girl, mascara because from our research we found that cover girl is one of the most toxic mascarasWe should be worried about using toxic mascaras because they cause eyelash loss and eye sensitivityMost toxic mascaras have many problems like not curling, thickening, or volumizing your eyelashes this is a problem we will also solve with our brushes that solve all those problems Four common ingredients that make cover girl mascara toxic are Parabens, Aluminum powder, Propylene Glycol, and Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A Acetate)

Research question Is there a visable and measureable difference between store bought and all natural mascara?

Procedure 1.put coconut oil, aloe vera , beeswax in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until beeswax is completely melted.2. 2 capsules of activated charcoal (depending on desired color, about 1/4 – 1/2 tsp) and pour into oil mixture. Stir until completely incorporated. Remove from heat.3. Pour into a small plastic bag, pushing the mixture down to one corner. Then cut a very small hole in the opposite corner of the bag.4. Fold the corner with the cut whole until you have a small tip that you can push into the empty mascara tube. (It’s much easier if you have an extra set of hands nearby to hold the tube in place!) Make sure the tip goes far enough into the tube or you’ll have a big mess on your hands!5. Keep the small-hole-end securely in the tube (or get your helper to hold it in place). Begin pressing the mascara mixture toward the tube. Don’t move too quickly or it will come out and you’ll have mess to deal with. (I highly recommend doing this with a paper towel or napkin underneath.) Keep moving the mixture into the tube until it’s all in.6. Place the inner cap in place and then twist the wand on tightly.7. Then, we will gather a group of 25 girls and test the homemade mascara on the right eye and the store bought mascara on the left eye.8. We will make a small questionnaire sheet for testers to fill out that will report feeling and behavior, and which eye had better eyelashes

ConclusionOur hypothesis was partially accepted by the results of this experimen and by the data. The hypothesis was mostly supported because the eye irritation on the right natural eye was 20% less then the store bought left eye. For the volume and look part of the experiment the natural homemade mascara appealed to more people and looked more volumized. I learned that homemade mascara is better for your eyes and doesn’t cause as much eye irritation. Despite the results, 28% of the people tested chose that they would rather use store bought mascara. I would recommend making and buying extra bottles of mascara. Also, make sure to have a number for example 25 that you can divide by 5 so you can have even amounts of data. Our experiment is reliable because we tested 25 people in the same way and asked them the same questions. Something that may have impacted our reliability is that both genders took our test. Overall, this experiment showed me many facts about mascara and that natural homemade mascara can be just as good or better then store brand mascara, because of the natural ingredients.

Learner profileThinker- This is because throughout my experement I was always coming up with new ways to improve my experemnet.
