Exxon Valdez was sailing outside the normal sea lane to avoid small icebergs thought to be in the area. It then went agrounded on Bligh reef.
When and Where did it occur?
It occurred on March 24, 1989, in Prince William Sound, Alaska.
Damages
1. Wildlife died: 250000 seabirds, 2800 sea otters, 247 bald eagles, 22 orcas, billions of salmon and herring eggs.
2. An Anchorage jury awarded $287 million for actual damages and $5 billion for punitive damages.
