The Cabinet

The President is both the head of state and head of government of the United States of America. He is also Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.Under Article II of the Constitution, the President is responsible for enforcing the laws created by Congress (the Legislative Branch).

The term "Cabinet" comes from the Italian word Cabinetto, meaning "a small, private room." Therefore, it is a good place to discuss important business without being interrupted.Below is a picture of a cabinet meeting.

Fun Fact

The Cabinet is an advisory body made up of the heads of the 15 executive departments.All the members of the Cabinet take the title Secretary, excepting the head of the Justice Department, who is titled Attorney General. Some of the departments include agriculture, commerce, defense, education, energy, homeland security and more.

The main job of the Executive Branch is to enforce laws.
