The first time the word 'robot' was ever used. Karel Capik created this word for his play "Rossum's Universal Robots". His definition is machines that greatly resembles humans. Interestingly, the play was about robots that have taken over humanity.
History
This was the first recorded robot made by Archytas of Tarentum. The mechanical bird operates by steam or compressed air. No prototypes of survived since then.
Scientists created the first humanoid robot. His name was Elektro. Elektro can walk with voice commands, speak 700 words, move his arms and head, and blow up balloons.
On October 4, 1957, The Soviet Union launched Sputnik into space. Since this is the first artificial orbiting satellite, it marked the beginning of the robot space race.
In 1986, honda released a statement saying they're creating a project to build a humanoid robot. Finally in 2000, they released ASIMO. ASIMO can walk, run (even on uneven surfaces), turn, climb stairs, reach and grasp for objects.
Scientists at the University of Cambridge have created a mother robot. Like survival of the fittest, the incompetent ones are destroyed and rebuilt. This way robots can evolve. Scientists predict robots will become their own species by 2040.
