Mt.Everest was first surveyed by a Brittish expedition in 1841

On May 29, 1953 Sir Edmund Hilary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal where the first to summit Everest.

Weather Extremes of Everest

The wind can easily blow over 200 mph with the jet stream rushing over the summit over most of the year.Temperatures can change greatly from -80 degrees F to up to 100 degrees F in the Western Cwm.

Everest sits at 29,035 feet (acording to a 1999 GPS survey) above sea level right at the very extreme of the Troposphere.
