european children world war ii

WWII affected everyone, but especially the children. Babies on up through school-age children from all over Europe were sent to the country. Their homes were the targets of Hitler's bombs! The first evacuations began in 1939 in Sunderland.Children from many nations had to do without a lot of things: food, new clothes, heat, and a safe place to live. Schools became consumed with helping the War Effort and not much book learning happened. Instead, the kids had to knit socks and scarves for the soldiers, make quilts, and more. They even tried to assist the army by picking up pieces of shrapnel which could be re-cycled to make bombs, weapons, and helmets for the soldiers. Keep exploring my Glog to learn more!
