Ethanol
Ethanol is a systematic name for ethyl alcohol. Ethanol comes from "starch or sugar based feedstocks" which have gone through the process of fermentation. And because of the abundance of corn available in the US that is what we have decided to use. Now almost 100% of petrol sold in the United states has 10% ethanol in it, and more gas stations are beginning to provide fuels with a higher concentration of ethanol in them (Branstad, 2015, p.1)
The Governors' Ethanol Coalition suggests that America replaces at the minimum 25% of petroleum as fuels for transportation by 2025.Ugarte,English,Jensen (Number 5, 2007) Oxford Journals. retrieved from: ajae.oxfordjournals.org/content/89/5/1290
Pros of replacing petroleum with ethanol:- Decrease reliance on foreign countries for oil.-Provides environmental benefits for rural economies-Helps fund local farmers and circulate money back into the economy.
