Epiglottitis

Assessment * You can assess through airway if the patient is talking to you, how they are talking to you and in severe cases where you would maunually check the airway and figure out if it is patent or not. You can asses through their breathing.As well as they're color,tempeture and condition of the patients skin which will give you information on whether or not the patient is getting adequate oxygen through out their body.

what is this disease ? * If not treated is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the tissue protecting the windpipe becomes inflamed.

Signs and Symptoms  * Signs can vary from coughs,to difficulty breathing and pale skin if the patient isn't acquiring enough oxygen  * Symptoms often include shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, and sore throat. Fever is commonly seen in cases of infection.

Epiglottitis

Treatment * Antiobiotics* a breathing tube and ventilation is needed with severe cases

s/s in Pediatrics  * Develop much faster then in a adults. * FeverSevere sore throat* Abnormal,high-pitched sound * when breathing in (stridor)* Difficult and painful swallowing* Drooling* Anxious,restless behavior* Greater comfort when sitting up or leaning forward
