Environmental Action

How to make the difference:- 3 R's rule: recycling, reusing, reducing.- Investing in "clean technologies";- Use of green gasoline;- Increase the production of renewable products;- Disclose biodegradable products;- Use public transport;- Avoid heating the house or air conditioning;- Do not waste electricity: Turn off appliances, check overload, turn off the lights.

Environmental Action

Come on, let´s save our planet!!!

Why is this an essential affair?

Pollution is the introduction of a contaminant into the environment. It is created mostly by human actions, but can also be a result of natural disasters. Pollution has a detrimental effect on any living organism in an environment, making it virtually impossible to sustain life. Pollution harms the Earth’s environment and its inhabitants in many ways. The three main types of pollution are: land pollution, air pollution and water pollution. Pollution control is a term used in environmental management. It means the control of emissions and effluents into air, water or soil. Without pollution control, the waste products from consumption, heating, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transportation and other human activities, whether they accumulate or disperse, will degrade the environment. In the hierarchy of controls, pollution prevention and waste minimization are more desirable than pollution control. In the field of land development, low impact development is a similar technique for the prevention of urban runoff.

The word 'natural' indicates that humans have not caused the disaster. However, human activity can certainly interfere with nature, which in turn may either cause a natural disaster or make its effects much worse. For example, human do not cause earthquakes that are generated by tectonic movement and seismic activity, but underground mining can result in instability that causes earthquakes. Humans do not cause the rain and monsoonal weather patterns that bring floods, but their activities in damaging the banks of rivers, and alteration of natural waterways, as well as poor drainage patterns in urban areas certainly contributes to flooding, and in some cases is the direct cause of floods which would not have otherwise occurred. Humans also do not create the weather patterns that cause droughts, but unwise agricultural practices and deforestation most certainly exacerbate the effects of a drought, leading to increased desertification. Humans do not cause tornados, hurricanes or cyclones but again, their activities in an area can make the effect of these natural disasters worse. Natural disasters can have a life-altering impact on the individuals and families fortunate enough to survive them. But the effect of natural disasters can be felt at the community, city and state level, or many times can impact an entire country. How well the impact of a disaster event is absorbed has much to do with the intensity of the impact and the level of preparedness and resilience of the subject impacted.

The creation of huge quantities of long-lived radioactive waste is the most formidable problem facing the nuclear power industry today. The difficulty of waste disposal was not considered to be a big problem during the time when power plants were first introduced; it was assumed that waste could be recycled or buried. Unfortunately, finding safe ways of storing radioactive wastes so that they do not leak radiation into the environment has proved to be a much more difficult task than anticipated. The planet's water cycle is the main way radiation gets spread about the environment. When radioactive waste mixes with water, it is ferried through this water cycle. Radionuclides in water are absorbed by surrounding vegetation and ingested by local marine and animal life. Radiation can also be in the air and can get deposited on people, plants, animals, and soil. People can inhale or ingest radionuclides in air, drinking water, or food. Depending on the half life of the radiation, it could stay in a person for much longer than a lifetime. The half life is the amount of time it takes for a radioactive material to decay to one half of its original amount. Some materials have half-lives of more than 1,000 years!

While some would call global warming a theory, others would call it a proven set of facts. Opinions differ vehemently. Let us consider global warming to be both a premise that the environment of the world as we know it is slowly, but very surely increasing in overall air and water temperature, and a promise that if whatever is causing this trend is not interrupted or challenged life on earth will dynamically be affected.Global warming and climate change are aspects of our environment that cannot be easily or quickly discounted. Many factions still strongly feel that the changes our Earth is seeing are the result of a natural climatic adjustment. Regardless of one’s perspective the effects of global warming are a quantifiable set of environmental results that are in addition to any normal changes in climate. That is why the effects of global warming have catastrophic potential. Global warming may well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. It could turn out to be the difference between a category three hurricane and a category four. Global warming as caused by greenhouse gas emissions can lead us to a definite imbalance of nature.

Our opinion: RAFAELThe evolution of times and mentalities tottaly changed the society that we know, turning it more industrial and materialized. Our quotidian had been much more mechanical since industrial revolution, the life styles and daily tasks became very easy thanks to essential changes that had spread the world. However, these changes had disadvantages, especially the awful environmental impact. The ecosystem sudenly suffered the consequences, quickly showing its weaknesses. Currently, environment faces a lot of challenges to support the attacks that humanity provoke it, unconsciously or not. Pollution, global warming, nuclear waste and others are the principal problems of a indifferent behavior from people. Our planet is loosing all of his benefits, that make it so different and special. We have the duty of rectify our mistakes and save our "home". With that purpose, have been created a lot of environmental organizations, whose work is indispensable to help the nature and change our insensitive mentalities. I agree with all of groups who want to help our environment, and I hope to be a member of one of these movements in the future, because we are in collision risk. Our planet is asking our help, and we can't refuse.

Something to see and reflect:

Our opinion: MarcoTo me Environment is everything that is connected with nature, and also with the environment in which we live. Unfortunately the man has not given any importance to it, every passing day he is destroying the environment, because of money, power and ambition of always wanting more and more. People of today do not remember preserve the planet, simple gestures can help, but nobody remembers it and then comes the consequences such as floods, droughts, and many other endangered animalsPeople forget sometimes that this planet is our home To improve this situation drastically is necessary that competent authorities take the necessary steps to ensure that the Environment is always preserved, with no change but society also has to think of a more accurately and preserve the world.

Learning about the environment is a great way to educate others, including your friends. With these environmental activities, you'll be sure to teach people that it's up to us to ensure our planet and all of his great virtues will be around for years to come.Whether you enjoy getting your hands dirty or prefer researching your surroundings inside away from mud, there's always an environmental activity for you. So dig in the dirt or dig into a book, and let's start saving our nature.

Whoever you are, wherever you are, there are people near and far, who share with you your desire to make a difference. We have one planet and the environment, though it may be grey, drizzling and deep green here and draught and arid conditions elsewhere, is all part of one cyclic system. As Greenpeace put it we only have the one life support system. We are all interlinked, our passions and beliefs crossover and if we choose we can formalise our allegiance by joining an environmental interest group. Of course there’s many to choose. From the globally iconic Greenpeace to small local groups there’ll be one (or more) to suit your opinion and beliefs. Essentially all environmental interest groups have the same vision, though their mission or tactics and the wordings may vary, they all want to protect the environment.

Attention humans:We speak by all the animals of this planet, we have no fault, don't ruin our lifes with your mistakes...

Since the 1970's, when many associations were created, environmental degradation has claimed many of our most beloved biodiversity hotspots and wildlands. Whether due to development or poor resource management, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss is a blight on our planet that impoverishes who we are. These organizations seek to make meaningful environmental action more accessible; the world over, the only thing keeping pristine habitats from the ax is the work of caring advocates! They are here to help you be that advocate, connecting you with local conservation movements around the world, with information about needed action, and connections to make your voice heard.

Earth Day originally celebrated at Spring Equinox around March 20, is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment. Now Earth Day is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. While other dates have been called Earth Day it is obvious that a singular Earth Day is needed and that the original choice of nature's day is best. More attention for this fact will increase the influence of Earth Day and its benefits. Every effort to encourage Earth care is to be commended. But just as more than one birthday each year for an individual would diminish the real birthday, calling other dates Earth Day detracts from the authentic day -- which can provide a more meaningful focus and obtain more unity in our diversity. The nature of the March equinox provides a reason for an event at the same time all over the world.
