During the 1920s:-n ew household inventions gave more time for leisure- by 1929, there was a radio in half of the country's homes- both the wealthy and poor would go to the theatre to see double feature and matinee shows- film began to be seen as an art- jazz music increased in popularity and young people would attend dance halls- Louis Armstrong and Jelly ROll Morton were popular jazz musicians at the timeDuring the 1930s:- money was scarce after the stock market crash, and people couldn't afford to spend much money on entertainment- board games: Scrabble and Monopoly- card games like Whist, Pinochle, Bridge were fun for both adults and children- radio was still popular beacause it was free to listen- nearly half of all homes contained a radio- Americans had extra money to blow- Broadway reached an all-time high
