Enrico Fermi

Enrico Fermi was born on September 29, 1901, in Rome, Italy. His intense Interests in physics were said to be the result of a 'family tragedy'. When Fermi was 14, his brother, Giulo died. Fermi was sad, devastated for a very long time. To cheer him up, his parents honed his studies. Giving him the courage of studying in physics,he later on won many awards! For example, he won a Rockefeller Fellowship and worked with another fellow physicist, professor Max Born in Germany. Fermi started working with atoms and the Periodic Table in 1934. He became very famous and was named after an element on the Periodic Table named fermium.

Scientist Enrico Fermi built the prototype of a nuclear reactor.Enrico worked on the Manhattan Project for the development of the first ever atomic bomb. Fermi won the Nobel Prize in 1938 for his work in radioactivity, allowing him to settle in the U.S.

Lasting Impact

His work taught us an important lesson about atoms and made new elements for the Periodic Table. These were some big accomplishments for him.
