People listened to Bin Laden because he helped Afghanistan in the Soviet War. Then, in 1988, he formed a religious group called Al Queda that believed in jhad (war). People joined Al Queda because they had similar religious beliefs and to repay Bin Laden for fighting in the Soviet War. They thought attacking the U.S was the right way to make there statement of war.

The people on the other planes didn’t make the hijackers crash because I think they didn’t have time to stop them. United Airlines Flight 175 only had 20 minutes from when the hijackers took over to when they hit the South Tower. They could’ve also been too scared to fight back. They also might’ve not known their plane was being hijacked.

Hijacked Planes

The process of finding Bin Laden started in 2002. The U.S military began tracking down members of Al Queda to get information about Bin Laden. Later in 2009, the ISI (Inter Services Intelligence Directorate) gave information about the compound in Abbottabod that Bin Laden might be hiding in. In 2010, a man named Al-Kuwaiti led agents to the same compound. The CIA had a safe house where they could observe activities at the compound. In 2011, Mr. Panetta called the U.S military to begin to plan a strike. They came up with a high altitude bombing, a direct shot with cruise missiles, and a helicopter assault. The military began rehearsing the helicopter assault. Then, on May 1, they attacked the compound and killed Bin Laden.

Tracking Bin Laden

Contractors built a Freedom Tower to define a statement of respect and hope as a steel building. No one works in it because it’s meant for remembering the victims of 9/11. It is used as a memorial statue to remind people of the tragedy. Construction workers started building the Freedom Tower in April 27, 2006. They finished November 3, 2014. It took nearly 8 years to create it!
