11 Sent ParagraphThe 1950's was but an era of consensus and conformity because there was teenage rebellion, a change in style, and change in music. For example, Elvis Presley would sing and dance to black music. He would listen to Nat King Cale, B.B. King Arthur ''Big Boy'' Crudup, Ivory Hunter,Fats Domino and would cite that they were inspirations to his songs. By him doing this, made him not look well in the eyes of Americans because during this time there was a lot of racism going on against blacks. Elvis Presley dressed in suits and clothing typically worn by African Americans that he wore during his performances. They were colorful and big on him and gave away the image of being sexual as well of his well known pompadour. Many people saw this innapropiate because teenage boys would copy his style and girls fell in love with him. Elvis Presley changed the style of music and popularized rock and roll. His song Hound Dog was controversial because it was writtenwas written toward a man not worthy enough so he was to be kicked off to the curb. Many people during this time were racist to blacks and held them highly as minorities so it was put into their perspective. The 1950s was not an era of consensus and conformity becausemany people went against the traditional style of dressing and, music and teenage rebellion because people wanted change in the traditional style of expression.
