"Follow your passion. Stay true to yourself. Never follow someone else's path unless you're in the woods and you're lost and you see a path. By all means, you should follow that" - Ellen DeGeneres Ellen DeGeneres is such an influential person for numerous reason. She always has a positive impact on society. While many celbrities use their fame and fortune for their own personal gain she uses her fortune to help people in need. She use her talk show as an oppurtunity to do this. Ellen has given away money, cars, houses and even small things such as furniture, appliances and technology. She devotes a lot of her time to charities as well. By doing this Ellen inspires other people to be kind and give whenever they can. Also, the fact that she is gay and she came out instead of hiding who she really is inspires people to not be ashamed to be who they are and to never change themselves for anyone.

ObstaclesEllen's sexual orientation was an obstacle in her life. She came out as a lesbian in 1997. Ellen had a sitcom and on that show she played the character Ellen Morgan. There's an episode in the show when her character, Ellen Morgan, comes out as gay. That was the first time ever that her character on the show, and Ellen herself, revealed that she was a lesbian. Ellen coming out resulted in declining ratings of the show. Also, a station in Birmingham refused to air the show. The show was later on cancelled. This isn't an obstacle for Ellen anymore though because she has millions of fans and viewers that support her for who she is and that support what she believes in.

"Be kind to one another. Bye, bye."

Short clip of how Ellen felt when she decided to come out

When Ellen sets a goal, she won't give up until she reaches that goal. A few years ago Ellen was determined to have George Clooney on her show. She kept saying over and over again that she will have George Clooney on her show and people thought she was crazy. But, a few months later George Clooney was on her show. She had another goal, to be on the cover of O magazine. Once again, people kept saying that she was crazy and they kept discouraging her. Shortly after, Oprah invited Ellen to be on the cover of O with her. Ellen is always so determined and positive. She also has a lot of perseverance. Those are the qualities of Ellen that I really admire.
