[2015] Renee Cruz: Elements, Compounds, & Mixtures

A compound is formed when two or more elements are chemically bonded together.

A compound will often consist of different properties from the elements that made it.

An element is a substance made from only one type of atom. Unlike a compound, an element cannot be broken down chemically into a more simple substance.

Element, Compound, & Mixture

A mixture can be separated by physical methods, where a compound cannot.

Homogeneous Mixture has the same uniform appearance and composition throughout.

The periodic table shows all the elements and their atomic number and mass.Protons and Electrons are found using the atomic number and Neutrons are found by subtracting the atomic number from the atomic mass.

A mixture contains two or more substances that have not reacted chemically with each other.

Note that you can't separate the elements of a compound by physical methods. It can only be done by using chemical reactions or by passing electricity through it.

A heterogeneous mixture consists of visibly different substances or phases.

Sodium is a highly reactive metal & Chlorine is yellow-green poisonous gas & when combined together the two react to form Sodium Chloride whis is compound known as Table Salt.
