Inventions can make your lives better or worse, depending on what they can do and how they’re used. Michael Faraday was an inventor. In 1831-1843 somewhere he discovered that a voltage will be generated across a length of wire if it’s exposed to a perpendicular magnetic field flux of changing intensity. A way to create a magnetic field of changing intensity is to move a permanent magnet next to a wire or coil of wire. But the magnetic field must increase or decrease in intensity perpendicular to the wire or else no voltage will be induced. The amount of voltage being induced depends on the rate of change of the magnetic field flux and the number of turns of coiled wire that’s exposed to the change in flux. It’s a useful invention because it can generate electricity to power machines.
