El Greco

•El Greco was born in Crete in 1541. His birthdate is unknown, and the only evidence is his statement of October 31st.•He was a Spanish Renassaince artist. •He was always very haughty with the worth of his art.•He designed chapels, sculptures, and painted for the Santo Domingo and the Cathedral.•He moved to Venice in 1567 as a pupil of Titian, said to be the greatest Venetian artist of the 16th century. El Greco was eager to master the elements of Renaissance painting.• At the end of 1570, He moves from Venice to Rome. He doesn't settle there, but moves to Toledo, Spain in 1577 and finally settles there.• He had a son in 1578 by Jerσnima de las Cuevas, whom he never married. His son's name was Jorge Manuel•Luis Tristαn was the only recorded pupil of his, and was El Greco's pupil from 1604 to 1607.•In 1614 in late March, El Greco falls ill (illness not known) and declares his son and girlfriend as heir to all he had. He dies on the 7th of April 1614.

When he came to Spain people found it difficult or impossible to pronounce his name, so they gave up and called him 'El Greco', which is Spanish for: 'The Grecian'. Or, 'one from Greece'.
