Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the new world. In the Colonial city there are cobblestone streets, spanish architecture and amazing resturants. In Santo Domingo visit The Plaza de Cultura to see many museums like The Palace of Fine Arts.
In Samana Bay, humpback whales can be seen during January and Febuary. Visit parque Nacional los Haitises on the Semana Peninsula to see Jungle Islands, beautiful translucent waters and thick mangrove forests. In the park there are many bird filled caves.
Lake Enriquillo is the largest salt water lake in the Antilles. It is home to flamingoes and iguanas. Parque Nacional isla Cabritos at the center of the lake is one of the largest wild reserves of American crocidiles.
The Eastern National Park is home tohundreds of species of plants and animals. Within the park there is the largest marine park with coral reefs. Some activiys to do there include diving and snorkeling.
Playa Dorada is the most popular beach in the Dominican Republic. This beach lies along a resort complex. On the beach you can find palm trees and beach chairs. There are restaurants, shopping centers, and a golf course.
Baseball is very popular in the Dominican Republic. More than 100 U.S. professional league baseball players are from the Dominican Republic. Some of the players include David Ortiz and Sammy Sosa.
The Dominican Republic's national bird is the Palmchat and the national flower is the Indian Mahogony.
The flag of the Dominican Republic is the only flag is the only national flag in the world that has a bible on it.
The traditional dish of the Dominican Republic is called the Dominican Flag. This dish has rice, beans, and chicken.
