EDS 463 Class 3 - Review & Marginalization

WEEK 3 - DISPROPORTIONATE IDENTIFICATION ' UNIVERSAL SCREENING PRACTICES!In this course, you will learn how to better identify and teach students who need additional support in order to reach proficient levels. In the last lesson, you learned how a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) offers a structure for identifying and providing targeted interventions for these students. In this lesson, we examine the first tier in MTSS more closely. Specifically, we will explore why paying careful attention to universal screening procedures (to include how we analyze data ' identify at-risk students) is an important part of the process. In this lesson, we will investigate (a) whether there have been problems, historically, in correctly identifying students who need help, (b) the specific factors that have led to over- or under-identification and (c) possible solutions for combatting these problems. What say you?
