Edgar Allen Poe

Famous Works

Edgar Allen Poe is one of the world's most astonishing authors. Poe is famous for his terrifying tales and passionate poetry. He was born on January 19, 1809 but was orphaned by his mother who died and his father who abandoned him only 1 year later. He was then taken to live with John and Frances Allan of Richmond, Virginia. As a young man Poe attended the University of Virginia, but only for one month because of lack of money. When Edgar was 27 years old he married his 13 year old cousin in secret. He started writing poems as a child and all during his adulthood. His pieces were called oustanding so outstanding that the President of the United States wanted to meet him. When he went to meet the President he was drunk and slovently dressed. Several days after being found unconscious and in tatterd clothes, Poe died of rabies in Baltimore,Maryland. In Poe's will, it stated that when he "died" he wanted someone to tie a string around his finger, leading to a bell in the graveyard, just in case he wasn't dead because in this time period people were being buried alive. To some Edgar Allen Poe was a hero to some he was a friend but to me he was a genius.
