Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a famous poet whos primary genre was gothicism. Poe's family was dirt poor; His parents were travelling actors. His father had abandoned him, his older brother, and his younger sister at a young age. He later found out that his father died from tuberculosis. His mother re-married but also later died from tuberculosis. His step father was a kind man and sent him to the best boarding school, he was kicked out after a year because of a gambeling debt. He went to a military academy named westpoint but left quickly after. He then got a job as an editor but was fired for alchoholism. He then focused most his time on his poetry.

Poe only recieved two small rewards in his lifetime. One was a 50 dollar reward for the "The Ms Found in a Bottle" and another for "Gold bug".

Lasting Impact

He is credited with contributing to narrative forms of the emergent science fiction genre.
